Apostille Convention, 20.10.2025

As of March 9, 2023, Pakistan has officially acceded tothe HagueConventionAbolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. This means that official documents issued in Pakistan can now be apostilled by authorized local authorities in Pakistan and must be recognized in all other member countries of the Convention, including Türkiye, without any additional attestation.

Eligible Documents for Apostille:

  • Birth, marriage, and death certificates
  • Family Registration certificates
  • Police Character certificates
  • Educational diplomas and transcripts
  • Court rulings
  • Power of Attorney (PoA)
  • Notarized documents such as custom docs

Authorized Authority:The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) is the sole competent authority for issuing apostilles in Pakistan. MoFA operates regional offices, known as Camp Offices, in cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta.

Steps to Obtain an Apostille in Pakistan:

1. Prepare the original document or a notarized copy.

2. If necessary, get prior verification from the relevant issuing authority (e.g., Higher Education Commission for academic documents, the related chamber of commerce for commercial purposes).

3. Submit the document to the MOFA office for apostille.

4. MOFA will affix the apostille certificate to the document.

For Use in Türkiye:After obtaining a document with a Pakistani apostille stamp, you can submit it to the relevant authority in Türkiye to use it. It is kindly recommended to ask for more information from the relevant department in Türkiye for any additional requirements beyond the apostilled documents. If the apostilled document is to be used in Türkiye, notarization of the translation may also be required for some.
